Canton Lake has great fishing, for catfish, crappie and if you are lucky you might catch a nice bass . Pick up a City Permit and you can drop the boat in, or just cast off the dock and you'll do just fine.
If you want to stay in Canton and take a drive just a little bit farther we have one of the best fishing holes in the State of Illinois, Banner Marsh, just 10 minutes away, the guys can hit 10 or more lakes at Banner Marsh. You can drop a boat in at the Lakes, also. Just make sure you have your fishing license, the game warden lives just down the road,g. Banner Lake is stocked, with Bass, Blue Gill, Crappie. You are sure to hook a nice fish for Dinner, or catch and release and just a mile back towards Canton, you will find Cracklin Jacks, have a drink and order the Onion Rings and you will be hooked up for supper, Also. Cracklin Jacks has a hunters lodge feel to it. A great place to visit.
Emiquonsippi is 20 miles away, one fo the state of Illinois' newest outdoor adventure spots, just outside of Havana, nestled between the Spoon River and the Illinois 3000 ? acre developing Marshland. You might even some Bald Eagles, at the river and definitly Herrons, and a variety of waterfowl. A beautiful spot, that will rival any view, of nature. Fishing only from the Boat here, so bring your boat along.
Fulton Country Recreation and Lakeland Park also have fishing. Lakeland has a magnifcent biking and hiking trail, the large coy fish at the bridge on the walkway are beautiful and won't mind if you feed them. The Canadian geese wander around and nest, so pack a loaf of bread to feed the wildlife. The kids can play at Steve Nagle Park while you walk if they like. Picnic after a day of cropping at Scrapbook Dreams.
Wallace Park also has a walking trail .
